Five South Seneca Students Art Works Awarded

Five South Seneca students received the highest honor from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, announced January 30, 2018.
Parker Biesterveld, Annabelle Macintosh, Hannah Podgorny and Caleb Covert all received Gold Keys and Mary-Kate Badalamenti received a Gold Key and a Silver Key.
“I was so excited I was jumping up and down when I read the results,” said art teacher Fran Copp. “This is the most prestigious art competition at the high school level. I’m so proud of our students on receiving this recognition.”
South Seneca competes in the “unsponsored” region, which can include any district in the United States in a region that doesn’t have an Affiliate Partner. Around 4,000 pieces were judged in the competition, with less than ¼ receiving Gold Keys.
The last time a South Seneca student brought home a Gold Key was 2010. In that time, a number of students were awarded Silver Keys. Works that are awarded the Gold Key are automatically considered for national-level recognition.
