Public Notice April 1: This week we received positive COVID test results for five (5) new cases, including two students and three staff members.
A little bit of Hollywood in Ovid.
After 17 years, Phil Marrella is retiring. Today was his last day with the South Seneca School District. He served as the Elementary School's Physical Education teacher, and until very recently, was the Dean of Students.
To show immense appreciation, his Physical Education teaching partner, Asa McMahon, collected donations from the teaching staff and presented a retirement gift to Phil this morning.
He received:
- Buffalo Bills travel bag
- A Josh Allen jersey
- A Syracuse Mets tickets good for any game and any seat
- A book about the 50 states
- A travel package
- Some goodies and a card with heartfelt messages signed from his colleagues.
What a haul — and well deserved! Best of luck in retirement Phil!
One last South Seneca winner from the Great Lakes Data Jam was announced earlier this week:
5th grader Emily Williamson was an honorable mention.
She took home a cool $100 thanks to her "DDT Song" about how DDT, a widely used pesticide, impacted bald eagles and osprey.
"One thing that I enjoyed was being able to combine two of my favorite things together, singing and science," said Williamson.

Hello High School Parents,
This is Mr. Houseknecht. The High School dance is still on for 7 to 10 tonight. The roads are in decent shape (state routes better). If you're out on the roads for the dance or other reasons, please drive very carefully. Thanks for your support.
