Take note! #foreverfalcons
Today was a very special “Falcon Day” that was planned by Sources of Strength. Our Falcons were concentrating on the “Generosity” piece of the Sources Wheel and had a high school Day of Service. Both students and staff had a choice of which location/service activity that they would like to volunteer at for the half day. Some service activities had locations within the surrounding community, and others stayed on campus.
The activities were the following:
* Hector Presbyterian Church: Cleaning, cemetery work, and yard maintenance.
* Bixby Home: Assisting in the kitchen, yard work, helping residents, and housekeeping.
* Ovid Library: Moving furniture and books, cleaning shelves, stocking, and sorting crafts.
* Lodi Library: Creating book displays, cleaning, and designing or making signs.
* STEPS: Assembling bags and making holiday cards.
* Elementary School: Supporting teachers, reading to students, and assisting in classrooms.
* Sheriff’s Department: Creating and organizing family night packages.
* Historical Society: Photographing headstones in the cemetery.
* On Campus: Making fleece blankets and hats to donate.
It was a great day all around and a great way to get into the giving spirit a week before Thanksgiving! #foreverfalcons
What an incredible story and recognition! We love to see it. #falconsforver

How much do you know or remember about the ancient Greek gods & goddesses?
Welcome to the Mount Olympus Diner, where Zeus is the chef and Hera is your Hostess. The food is great, but what the customers really love about the diner are the stories told there, the stories of Greek mythology. Diner Network star Sparky Guy arrives to do research on the restaurant and is treated to a variety of tales. This play features contemporary and family-friendly retellings of the myths of Hades and Persephone, Echo and Narcissus, and Arachne and Athena. A Greek Chorus of diner staff takes on multiple roles and keeps the action moving in each story. You’ll meet delivery Amazons, a track star named Nike, and a three-headed dog named Cerberus.
Come and join the fun as we celebrate and enjoy the stories of ancient Greece, with a twist!

Next week, Sources of Strength is hosting a district-wide Thanksgiving Food Drive competition for Pre-K-12th Grades. All food donations will go to the Hector Presbyterian Church Food Pantry that was broken into last week, and had all of their food donations stolen. We would like to help this food pantry out, as a way to show generosity in a district-wide initiative.
Each class will be partnered with another class within the district to provide a certain item for an overall basket. The class "teams" will work together to provide the most of their items to receive a prize - an ice cream sundae party. All donations will need to be received by Friday at noon to count toward the competition.
Congratulations to Addison Kiser (9th Grade) for being selected to participate in this year's NYSSMA Zone 3 Jr. High Area All-State Chorus. Addison sang Alto in the Mixed Chorus. She participates in South Seneca's High School Chorus as a Soprano and Vocal Jazz (Show Choir) as an Alto.
Applicants for Junior High Area All-State are currently in grades 7 through 9. They apply with their NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) Solo Festival score from the previous year and a teacher recommendation. Applicants are from NYSSMA's Zone 3, which extends from Tompkins County to near Binghamton and near Syracuse. Applicants with the highest scores and levels are chosen to fill a limited amount of seats in the two choruses, band, and orchestra. Students who are selected work with a guest conductor over the period of a day and half and present the music they worked on at a concert.
Addison was one of 146 singers chosen in Zone 3. The Mixed Chorus worked with conductor, Holden Maiorana. Mr. Maiorana is currently the Director of Choirs at Spackenkill High School in Poughkeepsie, NY, where he also runs the High School drama program.
