October 4:
This month the State Education Department has alerted school districts around the state of a pattern of callers making threats intended only to disrupt school operations. This morning we received our own voicemail of someone sounding like a very young girl, laughing with friends, to say they would “shoot up” the “Mickey Mouse House.” The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office is tracing the number of the caller, and advises us that this was an entirely non-credible threat to school safety.
We urge parents to speak to your children about making any kind of statement in today’s climate, even if intended to be funny, that relates to violence in any form. These statements can bring serious consequences to those making them, and take up valuable law enforcement and school personnel time to process.
